Using FOCL without signal
FOCL works at a venue with no signal, with one condition.
Before you leave
Open the app while you still have signal. Just opening it is enough. You do not have to open each wedding. That saves every wedding on your account to the device: the timeline, the shot list, Family Photos, people, vendors and your venues.
Do it before you leave, especially if the couple or your second shooter changed something recently. The phone only has what it had the last time it loaded online.
- Use the phone app, not a browser. The installed app always opens. A browser at a dead venue may not open at all.
- Do not sign out before a wedding day. Signing out clears the saved copy, and you need signal to sign back in.
What always needs signal
Notes, the readiness checklist, the Couple Portal, weather, and anything AI (imports, Ask FOCL). The Suntracker works offline because sun times are calculated on the device.
Documents are separate. A document is on the phone only if you uploaded it, opened it, or saved it for offline use. Ones that are not show greyed out and say “This file is not available offline”.
Ticking things off with no signal
The tick appears straight away and stays on the phone while you are offline, so the list works as a checklist all day.
One limit that matters. Saving a tick to your account needs a connection. Changes made offline are not queued and sent later. There is no automatic catch-up when signal returns, and you may see “Failed to save changes.” while you are out of range.
So when you are back in signal, open the wedding again and check the day’s ticks look right before treating the app as the record.
